  • Information is data that has been processed.
  • Information is interpreted data.
  • Information is meaningful.

Ok! Now I will discuss about information flow in an organization.

Information flow in an organization works in two ways :

  1. Vertically : Flow up and down among managers.
Example : Production supervisors constantly communicate with production-line                          workers and their own managers.

      2. Horizontally : Flow side ways among departments.

Example : Regional sales managers from the marketing department set their sales goals                by coordinating with production managers in the production department.

Organization

To understand a information flow clearly we have to start from the very beginning where it all started. This procedure starts in an organization. An organization has mostly five functions these are :

  1. Accounting : Keeps the track of all financial activities.
  2. Marketing : Makes company product.
  3. Human Resources : Advertises, promotes, and sells the product.
  4. Production : Finds and hires people and  handle personnel matters.
  5. Research : Dose product research and relates new discoveries to the firm's current or new products.
Management Level

Three Types of Management Level Here

  1. Top Level Management.
  2. Middle Level Management.
  3. Low Level Management.

Top Level Management

  • Executives are top level managers with responsibilities for the direction and success if the entire business,
  • set the long-term direction and plans.
  • Spend most of their time on planning and controlling activities.
  • Example : Vice president of marketing determines demand for current products and sales strategies for new products.

Middle Level Management
  • Middle managers are specialists with responsibilities for specific parts of a company's operation.
  • Work with a companies business plan one it approved.
  • Example : Regional sales manager set sale goals for sales in several states.

Low Level Management

  • Manage and monitor the employees or workers.
  • Responsible for operational matters.
  • Example : Production supervisor monitors materials needed to build a product.

Information must flow different directions to support information needs of management :

Each level of management has different information needs, the information flows to support these needs top management needs vertical, horizontal and external system, middle management needs vertical and horizontal system and finally supervisor needs primarily vertical system.
